According to the Chinese zodiac, 2020 is the Year of the Metal Rat. The five elements of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water are a conceptual foundation of Wu Xing philosophy. Metal represents firmness, persistence, self-reliance, and patience. It is a conductor, strong and reliable. Among twelve total animals of the rotating calendar, the Rat comes first and is considered clever, artistic, adaptable, and a signal of wealth. It seems through diligence and flexibility, business prospects for this year are bright!
Beyond Chinese elemental and animal symbology, I have been learning more about ch’i (qi), another name for energy or the vital force that flows through any living entity. I started utilizing “Baoding balls,” which can help relieve stress, improve dexterity, and align energy by rotating the pair repeatedly in one hand. They have a pleasant ring, balanced by a high and low bell tone. I also came across the ancient practice of Liu Zi Jue, a facet of Tai Ch’i involving six healing sounds: XU (shü), HE (huh), HU (hooh), SI (tsuh), CHUI (ch-way), XI (tsi).
- 噓 xū – ‘deep sigh’ or ‘hiss’ – Level the Liver Qi
- 呵 hē – ‘yawn’ or ‘laughing sound’ – Supplement the Heart Qi
- 呼 hū – ‘to sigh,’ ‘to exhale,’ or ‘to call’ – Cultivate [Shore Up] the Spleen/Pancreas Qi
- 呬 sī – ‘to rest’ – Supplement the Lung Qi
- 吹 chuī – ‘to blow out,’ ‘to blast,’ or ‘to puff’ – Supplement the Kidney Qi
- 嘻 xī – ‘mirthful’ – Regulate the Triple Burner Qi
“CHUI gets rid of heat; HU sweeps away wind; XI eliminates worries; HE promotes the circulation of energy; XU drives away cold; and SI reduces stress.”

I aim to develop mastery of these healing sounds, strengthen energy flow, and continue nurturing my overall health. The frequency of 111 Hz is extremely beneficial and calming, and I have been using it during meditation. Below are my favorite tracks:

Extended regenerative spiritual reset, 9 hours (111 Hz) ~ https://youtu.be/Nu51TdwHrb0
While battling the flu, these resources have been surprisingly helpful in my recuperation. I hope you are practicing self-care and taking the time you need to heal if you are ailing! It’s cold season, and investing in the mind-body-spirit connection is one of the best things we can do to ensure wellness.
