Our human family is one entity ~

Healing Sounds

BAODING002-2
http://www.tsuenmay.com/product-p/baoding002.htm

2/4/20

According to the Chinese zodiac, 2020 is the Year of the Metal Rat. The five elements of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water are a conceptual foundation of Wu Xing philosophy. Metal represents firmness, persistence, self-reliance, and patience. It is a conductor, strong and reliable. Among twelve total animals of the rotating calendar, the Rat comes first and is considered clever, artistic, adaptable, and a signal of wealth. It seems through diligence and flexibility, business prospects for this year are bright!

Beyond Chinese elemental and animal symbology, I have been learning more about ch’i (qi), another name for energy or the vital force that flows through any living entity. I started utilizing “Baoding balls,” which can help relieve stress, improve dexterity, and align energy by rotating the pair repeatedly in one hand. They have a pleasant ring, balanced by a high and low bell tone. I also came across the ancient practice of Liu Zi Jue, a facet of Tai Ch’i involving six healing sounds: XU (shü), HE (huh), HU (hooh), SI (tsuh), CHUI (ch-way), XI (tsi).

  •  – ‘deep sigh’ or ‘hiss’ – Level the Liver Qi
  •  – ‘yawn’ or ‘laughing sound’ – Supplement the Heart Qi
  •  – ‘to sigh,’ ‘to exhale,’ or ‘to call’ – Cultivate [Shore Up] the Spleen/Pancreas Qi
  •  – ‘to rest’ – Supplement the Lung Qi
  • chuī – ‘to blow out,’ ‘to blast,’ or ‘to puff’ – Supplement the Kidney Qi
  •  – ‘mirthful’ – Regulate the Triple Burner Qi[1]

“CHUI gets rid of heat; HU sweeps away wind; XI eliminates worries; HE promotes the circulation of energy; XU drives away cold; and SI reduces stress.”

The following video is a wonderful guide:

I aim to develop mastery of these healing sounds, strengthen energy flow, and continue nurturing my overall health. The frequency of 111 Hz is extremely beneficial and calming, and I have been using it during meditation. Below are my favorite tracks:

Healing sounds and cell regeneration (111 Hz) ~ https://youtu.be/9kE8RT951Ms

Extended regenerative spiritual reset, 9 hours (111 Hz) ~ https://youtu.be/Nu51TdwHrb0

While battling the flu, these resources have been surprisingly helpful in my recuperation. I hope you are practicing self-care and taking the time you need to heal if you are ailing! It’s cold season, and investing in the mind-body-spirit connection is one of the best things we can do to ensure wellness.

= # = THE MAGIC SPIDER = # =

by Elizabeth S. Graham

“Make us proud even though the line is always moving,

Don’t be too loud, fix it without us noticing,

We want results, seeing is believing

But we can’t be bothered with the details

Quick and painless, out of our hands

Take it away, make the spider dance

Just a flick of the wrist please, put us at ease”

She is safe in her web, spun tight with secrets to spare

In case this one gets wrecked, her hard work laid bare

Scuttling to and fro, a mess wherever she goes

But not that she made, so many she has found

The messes were shrouded before, clouded, disguised

She brought what none would mention into attention

She does the work no one wants to do

“If you don’t serve your detractors, then who are you?”

“I will serve myself, I will serve the world

My lifetime is short, I am born over and over again

To spin and spin and spin and spin

Hopes tied to a string

Catch your dinner, meet your maker

It’s decidedly no big thing”

Decisions and poses, gardens of roses

Deftly, so deftly she alights

To knit a gossamer garment so no one can harm it

The Earth is safe in her sights

Thank you for reading my poem, inspired by Native American legends such as “The Spider Woman and the Twins” (Hopi). Do you write poetry? What are your poems about? I like that they do not always have to rhyme, and that sometimes no one has to read them except me. I take pleasure in the process of composing my verses. I read my own writing ~ dating from the time I was about 6 or 7 ~ to gain insight into my psyche and interpretation of the world. It is wonderful to see my grasp of the English language evolve, my focus shift, and ever-present metaphors surface through the last 20-something years. I will occasionally recite aloud, which adds yet another layer to the flow. Try reading one of your poems aloud. Trust me: it will feel silly at first, but then very freeing after a few lines.

I wish you a magical Autumn!!!

An Exercise in Empowerment

2/24/19

“Home Again,” in the First Person

The fire in the hearth has gone out, unattended. The room is cold and bluish grey with dark shadows in the cracks of the stones and low, lurking corners. Something was here but it is not anymore. It fell asleep, became neglectful, and abandoned the kitchen altogether.

But there are still, hidden among the broken pottery, cups from which I can drink. Pewter plates from which I can eat. Sweep away the soot, gather new wood, and start a fire in the long-forgotten hearth. Open the windows, the door, the chimney flue and let freshness flow through. Scrub the floor, draw water from the well and sort the dishware – take the cups that are broken, put them in a basket and smash them however I like. Save the pieces.

Clean that which is not broken and use it, right away. Find a place just outside the doorway and sit in the dirt, bringing my basket. Create a mosaic of broken clay and glass and porcelain on the ground, stamp it down, admire my new threshold.

A fire is crackling as I return inside, closing the windows. Firelight winks on my clean glasses, flutes and chalices. I heave a sigh and sit down in a spot that I may have sat in, once before, long ago. Sinking into my spot, for it is mine, I hear birds sing and feel the warmth of the burning logs on my hands and knees, where fingers rest like legs hanging over a dock.

The day was eventful and productive. I have done great work, brought to life something that was dead. I have revived this kitchen, this space. I have awakened a soul that was gone, but has at last returned. I am home again.
